A beginning....

Dear friends and colleagues,

Welcome to the LJC network. I've conceptualized this blog as a way to connect and help each other as women, as journalists and as Latinas.

This is my project for the NHLI (National Hispana Leadership Institute). I was selected to be part of the 2007 NHLI leadership class. In order to graduate at the end of the four week program, each one of us has to come up with a project that will help change lives of other Latinas. In other words, we all must give something back for the great opportunity of being part of this incredible learning journey.

I chose to stay within my field of expertise: journalism. There are so many women in the media business - an industry with so much power! We can help guide content, to make it more relevant to our needs.

My vision is to use this blog as a sounding board, as a way to alert one another of stories or topics which should be covered, a place where we can all find out what other women are doing to improve lives, a way to find mentors for Latinas already in the business and for those who are in still in school looking to join our ranks and a way to keep track of women moving up the ladder.

I envision women from around the country logging on and sharing news, experiences and advice.

This is still in its testing stage, so as time goes on, you might see visual and technical improvements. So, any comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Veronica
